UAE residents can get a Kuwait tourist e-visa online, but unlike Saudi Arabia and Qatar, Kuwait still limits the GCC-resident route to listed professions. Kuwait’s official visa portal names them as doctors, pharmacists, lawyers, engineers, consultants, managers, businessmen and similar roles. The fee is KWD 3 for most nationalities.

Your UAE residence must show that profession and be valid for six more months. This guide covers who qualifies, the fee table by nationality, the validity and stay rules that confuse most applicants, the KWD 10 daily overstay fine, and what to do if your profession is not on the list.

Key Takeaways

  • GCC residents qualify for the Kuwait tourist visa only if their residence lists an eligible profession.
  • Your passport and your UAE residence must each be valid for at least six months from the date you enter Kuwait.
  • The tourist visa fee is KWD 3. Egyptians pay KWD 9, and 16 nationalities, including Jordanian, Lebanese, British and American passport holders, are exempt.
  • The visa must be used within one month of issue. It allows a single entry and a stay of up to three months.
  • Overstaying costs KWD 10 per day and can lead to a re-entry ban.

Two Ways a UAE Resident Can Qualify

A UAE resident can get a Kuwait tourist visa either through their passport, if it is on Kuwait’s e-visa list, or through their UAE residence, if it shows an eligible profession. Both routes run through the Ministry of Interior’s Kuwait Visa portal.

Route Who it covers How to get it
Eligible passport Nationals of listed countries, including the UK, US, Canada, Australia, most of Europe, Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Turkey and Georgia Online e-visa or visa on arrival at Kuwait International Airport
GCC residence with an eligible profession Any nationality, if the UAE residence shows a listed profession Online application with a copy of the residence showing the profession

The eligible professions

The portal’s tourist visa instructions list these professions for GCC residents: doctors, pharmacists, lawyers, engineers, consultants, judges and prosecutors, university professors, journalists and media professionals, pilots, systems analysts, computer programmers, managers, businessmen, members of the diplomatic corps, and owners, managers and representatives of companies and commercial institutions.

The test is the profession recorded on your UAE residence, not your real job. A senior employee whose residence says “clerk” or “sales executive” does not qualify through this route, however senior the actual role.

Where to see your profession

Your profession appears in your UAE residence details and on your labor contract. If your residence was updated to a new job title, apply only once the new title shows on the residence record you upload.

The portal requires a copy of the GCC residency “clearly indicating the profession”. An Emirates ID image without the occupation visible may not be enough, so download the residence details that show it.

Validity Rules for Passport and Residence

Kuwait’s terms set the same six-month rule for both documents. “The applicant’s passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry into Kuwait. GCC residence must be valid for 6 months from the date of entry.”

If your UAE residence expires in under six months, the GCC route is closed. Renew first, using our guide to renewing a UAE residence visa, or use a passport-based route if you have one.

Fees by Nationality

The portal’s instructions put the tourist visa fee at KWD 3, noting that it “may vary depending on the visitor’s nationality”. Its fee table names the exceptions.

Nationality Fee
Jordan, Algeria, Sweden, Iraq, Palestine, Morocco, Norway, United States, Italy, United Kingdom, Turkey, Tunisia, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, South Korea Exempt
Egypt KWD 9
All other nationalities KWD 3

Kuwait’s fee notes say all amounts are collected in Kuwaiti dinars and are non-refundable. The FAQ adds that the fee is only collected once the application is accepted, and that the same fee applies again if you extend.

Validity, Entries and Length of Stay

The Kuwait tourist visa is valid for one month from the date it is issued, allows a single entry, and lets you stay up to three months from the date you enter. Those three numbers are set out in the portal’s terms and conditions.

The two clocks catch people out. You must enter within 30 days of issue, but once inside, the stay limit runs 90 days from your entry date.

Because it is single entry, leaving Kuwait ends the visa. A second trip needs a new application, and the portal lists a multiple-entry visit visa type at KWD 3 plus KWD 1 per month.

What actually happens after you apply

The portal’s FAQ says tourist visas typically take between 1 and 2 business days, with updates by email or mobile number. If the application is rejected, the portal gives the reason where possible and you can apply again.

Carry the approved visa, your passport and the residence copy you uploaded. Officers at Kuwait International Airport can ask for the return ticket and hotel booking.

Required Documents

The portal lists a copy of the passport, a copy of the GCC residency clearly indicating the profession, a confirmed travel ticket, a hotel reservation and a recent face photo. The FAQ specifies a white-background, passport-standard photo.

  1. Check your profession. Confirm your UAE residence shows one of the listed professions.
  2. Check your dates. Your passport and UAE residence each need six months from your entry date.
  3. Book refundable travel. Hold a return ticket and hotel booking you can change, because both are uploaded.
  4. Apply on the official portal. Create an account at kuwaitvisa.moi.gov.kw, choose the tourist visa, and upload the documents.
  5. Pay on approval. Pay the fee when the application is accepted.
  6. Travel within 30 days. Enter Kuwait within one month of issue.

Overstay Fines

Kuwait fines visitors KWD 10 per day for every day over the permitted stay. The terms add that an overstayer “may be banned from entering Kuwait in the future”.

KWD 10 is roughly AED 120 a day, so a one-week overstay costs more than the visa itself many times over. Track your 90-day limit from your entry stamp, not from the visa issue date.

If Your Profession Is Not on the List

If your UAE residence shows a profession outside the list and your passport is not on the e-visa list, you need a different visa type. The portal’s FAQ lists a family visit visa for those visiting family members residing in Kuwait, which a relative in Kuwait applies for.

Domestic workers can only be added by a GCC resident. The portal blocks the option with the message “Only GCC resident can apply for Domestic Workers”.

Driving to Kuwait From the UAE

Kuwait has no land border with the UAE, so the road route crosses Saudi Arabia. You need a Saudi visa for the transit, covered in our guide to the Saudi visa for UAE residents.

Carry an International Driving Permit with your UAE license, and check that your car insurance covers both countries. Our guide to the international driving permit in the UAE explains where to get one.

Before You Leave the UAE

A short trip to Kuwait does not affect your UAE residence while your permit stays valid. If you have an unpaid debt or a pending case, check your UAE travel ban status online before you book.
